NEW: Producer and Youth Producer Guide to the Veterinary Feed Directive (4 page pdf)
The Veterinary Feed Directive(VFD) rules enacted in October 2015 require livestock farmers to correctly apply VFD Orders and retain all VFD Orders for two (2) years, producing them for inspection when requested to do so.
VFD Orders may be stored electronically or as hard copy paper. Sandy Stuttgen has created a summary sheet which will help you to organize the application of multiple paper VFD Orders. This form allows you to use various veterinarians and distributors for the VFD Drugs used on your farm. Use this Summary Sheet in PDF format as the cover sheet in the VFD File and then file all VFD Orders written between the dates indicated on this summary sheet. Or use this Excel Spreadsheet Summary to store the orders electronically.
For more information, the FDA has a webpage with the Veterinary Feed Directive Producer Requirements; this page includes a link to a printer friendly brochure. For complete information about the VFD, visit the FDA’s VFD website.
